Day 22 - Burrito No More

Today marks the 22nd day of yishan's burrito challenge which was posted in reddit's GoForGold subreddit. The minimum time in order to complete the challenge was 14 days, but any one could go on for as long as they want, and my journey ends on day 22.

Tomorrow is Rosh Hashanah which is the Jewish New Year (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosh_Hashanah) and a holiday, which means of course a festive family meal! I don't think that eating a burrito will be a welcomed gesture, and 22 days of eating nothing but burritos is, honestly, enough.

So, today is the end to my challenge. Honestly, making everything from scratch proved not only to be frugal (i imagine) but also healthy and not a digestive killer. The biggest issues so far was both eating only one meal a day and being slightly socially restricted (in terms of food). Apart from those two issues, the challenge was actually quite fun! I think I would have actually continued to day 24 just for the sake of the two year mark (in Reddit gold).

Today, from all days, I forgot to take pictures of the burrito and only took a video of myself eating. On well, the burrito was pretty much exactly the same as yesterday, so the pictures wouldn't have been really any different.

Day 22 - The end!

Day 21!

Today's burrito was made up of a white flour tortilla, home made salsa, pan fried beef & onions, a pan fried green hot pepper & cheese. As always the digestive system is in slow-mode and that was the only think I ate apart from loads of coffee and water.

Day 20!

Day 20 of the Burrito Challenge! As always, my eating habits have become a one-meal-a-day routine. And today was no exception. I made a white flour tortilla, home made hummus (chick peas, tahini - טחינה & olive oil with a bit of lemon juice and salt), salsa, and chicken. Simple but great.

Day 19

During midday I found myself being extremely hungry for some reason, so I made two(!) white flour burritos, with sliced chicken breast, cheese, cabbage and a tomato with a bit of salsa sauce.

Day 18

I woke and had a couple of cups of coffee as usual, and around mid-late afternoon I made a whole wheat tortilla, with 4 eggs, cheese, sour cream and a tomato. The burrito, as usual, kept me sedated during the rest of the day. I imagine both due to its size and that I've been drinking coffee, tea, and water quite a lot.

Day 17

This may sound a tad asinine, but I have been thinking about why burritos are so filling, and I realized that I use about 1 cup of flour for a single tortilla. That is quite a large amount of flour, especially when whole wheat flour is used, which is supposed to take longer to digest to it's their "complexity". Two solutions come to mind in order to fix the 'one meal a day' phenomena: reducing the amount of flour used (and the food inside the burrito as well) or cutting the burrito in half. The other question is, is it really a problem only eating (solids) once a day? I assume there are many research papers which are against, and many others which are in favor.

Day 16!

Keeping with this week's trend, I wasn't hungry during most of the day until late afternoon. By then I bought a whole chicken and threw it in the oven, and made for the first time a white flour tortilla! The white flour compared to whole wheat or rye flour is much more tasty and hand-able. After the chicken was ready I cut off a leg and took of the meat to be placed in the burrito. The result was great.
