Day 22 - Burrito No More

Today marks the 22nd day of yishan's burrito challenge which was posted in reddit's GoForGold subreddit. The minimum time in order to complete the challenge was 14 days, but any one could go on for as long as they want, and my journey ends on day 22.

Tomorrow is Rosh Hashanah which is the Jewish New Year (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosh_Hashanah) and a holiday, which means of course a festive family meal! I don't think that eating a burrito will be a welcomed gesture, and 22 days of eating nothing but burritos is, honestly, enough.

So, today is the end to my challenge. Honestly, making everything from scratch proved not only to be frugal (i imagine) but also healthy and not a digestive killer. The biggest issues so far was both eating only one meal a day and being slightly socially restricted (in terms of food). Apart from those two issues, the challenge was actually quite fun! I think I would have actually continued to day 24 just for the sake of the two year mark (in Reddit gold).

Today, from all days, I forgot to take pictures of the burrito and only took a video of myself eating. On well, the burrito was pretty much exactly the same as yesterday, so the pictures wouldn't have been really any different.

Day 22 - The end!

Day 21!

Today's burrito was made up of a white flour tortilla, home made salsa, pan fried beef & onions, a pan fried green hot pepper & cheese. As always the digestive system is in slow-mode and that was the only think I ate apart from loads of coffee and water.

Day 20!

Day 20 of the Burrito Challenge! As always, my eating habits have become a one-meal-a-day routine. And today was no exception. I made a white flour tortilla, home made hummus (chick peas, tahini - טחינה & olive oil with a bit of lemon juice and salt), salsa, and chicken. Simple but great.

Day 19

During midday I found myself being extremely hungry for some reason, so I made two(!) white flour burritos, with sliced chicken breast, cheese, cabbage and a tomato with a bit of salsa sauce.

Day 18

I woke and had a couple of cups of coffee as usual, and around mid-late afternoon I made a whole wheat tortilla, with 4 eggs, cheese, sour cream and a tomato. The burrito, as usual, kept me sedated during the rest of the day. I imagine both due to its size and that I've been drinking coffee, tea, and water quite a lot.

Day 17

This may sound a tad asinine, but I have been thinking about why burritos are so filling, and I realized that I use about 1 cup of flour for a single tortilla. That is quite a large amount of flour, especially when whole wheat flour is used, which is supposed to take longer to digest to it's their "complexity". Two solutions come to mind in order to fix the 'one meal a day' phenomena: reducing the amount of flour used (and the food inside the burrito as well) or cutting the burrito in half. The other question is, is it really a problem only eating (solids) once a day? I assume there are many research papers which are against, and many others which are in favor.

Day 16!

Keeping with this week's trend, I wasn't hungry during most of the day until late afternoon. By then I bought a whole chicken and threw it in the oven, and made for the first time a white flour tortilla! The white flour compared to whole wheat or rye flour is much more tasty and hand-able. After the chicken was ready I cut off a leg and took of the meat to be placed in the burrito. The result was great.

Day 15!

The minimum time to complete the burrito challenge was set to 14 days, but there was no limit! here is day 15.

For dinner I made a 50% rye 50& white flour tortilla with salsa, cheese, lettuce, and ground beef with onions and garlic.

This Is The End, Beautiful Burrito, This Is The End?

I planned on uploading both today's and yesterday's videos much earlier than now, but I was busy when I had that thought in mind, and I forgot when I wasn't busy. This is day 14, and the minimum  time requirement to complete the burrito challenge.

Honestly, the challenge was a times a bit frustrating, mainly being restricted in more social environments than anything else. I did however find burritos to be extremely tasty and satisfying, though they do take a very slight toll in the digestive system. but not more than many other foods. Thus, I actually don't know if I want to quit or not, and there is some part in me which really wants to keep on going, and see how long I can keep on eating burritos; and I think I'll do just that.

Day 13

For the past recent days I have found that eating a whole burrito for one meal was a bit too much, and as a result I didn't eat during the rest of the day. So, I decided to eat only half a burrito and eat the second half later on in the day.

Tortilla 101

During the whole burrito challenge I have been making all of the tortillas from scratch using whole wheat or rye flower, so, I thought a 'how to' video was in order!

* One cup of flower, as used in the video, will produce two tortillas. You will have to separate the dough into two balls after kneading has been done.

Day 12!

The end is actually visible, and honestly my burrito journey is indeed a bit mentally annoying, as I'd love to eat other things (anything?), but these feelings are not constant and arise only from time to time. I still find burritos to be tasty!

The burrito was, as they have been for some time now, quite filling. As a result I actually didn't eat anything else today; but around 22:00 I started feeling a bit hungry again, so I decided to make a simple smoothie with a mango, banana, half an apple, and some milk (I forgot that you can take pictures of food which aren't burritos...imagine that!)

Day 11

Another busy day in which most of the day consisted of water and coffee and actual hunger with a proper meal in mind wasn't on the top of my priorities. Only during the late afternoon, early evening, did I eat a proper meal; which was a burrito of course!

Day 10!

Today was quite hectic, and most of the day I spent driving and doing various errands. Finally, only at about 23:00 I managed to have an actual meal. The burrito consists of a home made whole wheat tortilla, with beef and fried tomato's, bell peppers, onions and mushrooms.

Day 9

I woke up today feeling quite sated, so apart from drinking a couple of cups of coffee, I only ate a burrito for dinner which consisted of fried mushrooms, onions, bell pepper, tomato, and left over prime-ribs (I took the meat off the bones).

Boring video of eating the burrito while watching a crappy TV show:

Half Way There!

Today is day 8 of the GoForGold Burrito Challenge, which means I have completed half of the challenge. Last week has galloped by, and has been quite enjoyable, as eating only but burritos has not been a bleary task at all. As I mentioned earlier, burritos are a new experience and I have been relatively fickle when it comes to the contents which make up my burritos; from chicken to beef and lamb.

Last week has not brought about any changes in weight, pooping habits, skin issues, or anything else. I feel just as I did before the challenge. But I think it might be down to the fact that I have been making everything from scratch and in full control of what my burritos are made from. I think eating burritos from fast food joints would have been much more of a pain.

Day 6!

I woke up today feeling a bit run-down and wasn't quite hungry. During the evening my appetite returned and my neighbor offered me some spare ribs! I naturally accepted and made a delicious black bean-salsa-spare ribs burrito (with a cold beer)!

Day 5!

The text at the end got fucked, but i'm too lazy to fix it. The burrito was so large, and i ate it relatively late, so that was the only thing i ate that day apart from coffee and beer.

Day 4!

Breakfast!

Home made whole wheat tortilla with home made salsa!

Tomato!

Bell pepper!

Parsley!

Omelet!

Cheese!

Rolled up!

Nom nom nom!

Dinner:

A good old tortilla with salsa.

Black beans.

Chicken breast! This is my first chicken burrito, and it goes along great with the rest of the ingredients!

 Cheese.

Sour cream! This is also the first time I decided to use sour cream, and it is a great addition!

Final product. During the whole day I was busy doing mundane and annoying chores, such as going to IKEA and building two closets. I finally ate this burrito around 24:00 and I must say it was really amazing, so much so, that it was completely eaten in about a minute.

Day 3!

Hello burrito lovers! here is today's breakfast!

My video editing skills are awesome. I have noticed that due to the size of the breakfast burrito I'm usually not hungry for lunch, oh well.

Dinner:

As always: home made whole wheat tortilla (about 3 minutes in a preset 180c oven) and some home made salsa as well (tomato, bell pepper, chili pepper, onion, garlic, etc).

Black beans!

Steak!
